Opposite Juhi Chawla, SRK made his first mark as a comedian hero with a massive Box Office impact in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. People saw his serious performance in the Maya Memsab which is a bollywood version of of Madame Bovary, a timeless western classic. Achievements as a romantic comedian didn’t obligate him to cling onto the so called proven formula of success.

Bold moves, bigger success

He proved his acting capability with the unthinkable enthusiasm and became the first ever murderer hero of Bollywood and took the Box Office with a storm. His roles in films like Darr, Anzam, Baazigar created the first successful negative hero characters in the history of Indian Cinema. Baazigar directed by Abbas-Mustan swiped the Filmfare Award ceremony and SRK won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award. The role of a musician consumed by love in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa won him the critic award in the same year. Next year he won the award for best villain for his role in Anjaam.

Writing history

The longest running cinema in the history of India, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”, had Shahrukh Khan playing the role of Raj, a romantic NRI and it made him the undisputed King of Bollywood. The character of stage director Rahul in “Dil To Pagal Hai” won him another award.

Double role in action comedy Duplicate, where he played a cook and a crime master, didn’t see much commercial success but paved the way of some of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema with the collaboration of SRK and Dharma production which produced another major commercial success Kuch Kuch Hota Hai where he played the role of a college guy and a single father. The role of radio journalist in Dil Se, under the direction of Mani Ratnam took his acting career to a new height. The hopeless drunk romantic character of Devdas earned him praises from all segment of world cinema. The psychologically challenged Rizwan Khan in My Name is Khan was another display of his versatility. People love Shahrukh performance as the robotic G One in the movie RA. One was one of the finest Sci-Fi romantic acting performances given in Bollywood.

The diverse performances over 22 years of Bollywood career have won him 8 Filmfare Best Male Actor Awards. Out of 226 nominations in all over the world King Khan has won 207 awards, with a success rate of over a whopping 90%.
